I total vördnad

1.
god's green hair is where I slept last
he balanced a diamond on a blade of grass
now I woke me up with a cardinal bird
and when I want to talk he hangs on every word
Bottom of the World (Orphans; Brawlers, 2006)
2.
they sharpen their knives
on my mistakes
Make it Rain (Real Gone, 2004)

3.

and Matilda asks the sailors are those dreams
or are those prayers?
Time (Rain Dogs, 1985)
4.
so, she left Monte Rio, son

just like a bullet leaves a gun
with charcoal eyes and Monroe hips
she went and took that California trip
Hold On (Mule Variations, 1999)
5.
well they call me William the Pleaser
I sold opium, fireworks and lead
now I'm telling my troubles to strangers
when the shadows get long I'll be dead
Lucinda (Orphans; Brawlers, 2006)
6.
a long dead soldier looks out from the frame

no one remembers his war; no one
remembers his name
A Good Man is Hard to Find (Blood Money, 2002)
7.
the ocean doesn't want me today

but I'll be back tomorrow to play
and the strangels will take me
down deep in their brine
The Ocean Doesn't Want Me Today (Bone Machine, 1992)
8.
well he came home from the war
with a party in his head
and an idea for a fireworks display
Swordfishtrombone (Swordfishtrombone, 1983)
9.
'cause there's nothin' strange

about an axe with bloodstains in the barn
there's always some killin'
you got to do around the farm
Murder in the Red Barn (Bone Machine, 1992)
10.
uncle Bill
will never leave a will
and the tumour is as
big as an egg
he has a mistress
she's Puerto Rican
and I heard she has
a wooden leg
Cemetary Polka (Rain Dogs, 1985)
